Wade_TownsendPlaying A Little Pepper

Longtime reader, Clayton Bricklemyer, stumbled upon something interesting today. Wade Townsend, the former Rays first round draft pick (8th overall in 2005), is now a pro poker player. Bricklemyer stumbled upon Townsend’s Twitter page with the handle @Ricestudpoker. He doesn’t tweet often, but according to his bio he is a pro poker player and lives in Cabo San Lucas. I dug around a little more and found one tournament where Townsend finished 11th and won $21,000. And in 2008, he won $77,000 when he finished first in a World Series of Poker event. Interestingly, that last event came when he was still pitching with the Rays. He made three starts in 2009 and then moved on to an independent league where he made 5 appearances in 2010.
