Wil Myers is now officially a big leaguer and had his first Major League at bat, popping up on the first pitch. But maybe the most telling part of the at bat happened as Myers walked up to the plate.

He yawned. Twice. Here’s his first at bat as called by Dave Wills and Andy Freed…

  1. Mr. Smith 1980 says:

Agreed. The yawn was manufactured, but whatever helps a young player relax. Longo always does the “duck-lips” exhale whenever he wants to appear calm and collected in high-leverage situations… I suppose it’s akin to a Kiai in martial arts.

  2. KT says:

    He’s a bust! Can’t hit. The trade was a huuuge mistake! ;)

  3. Craig says:

People yawn when their nervous- he will be fine.

  4. MJ says:

sign of being nervous is all

  5. SB says:

I yawn when I’m nervous. But to relax at the plate, take at least one pitch. Aceves just walked two straight hitters (Loney on 4 pitches). Coaches should have had the take sign on all the way until he sees a strike. Then turn the kid loose.

    • Mr. Smith 1980 says:

I’m willing to bet they didn’t say anything or give him a take sign just so he had a clear head during his first AB, no added stress or pressure.
