Peter Gammons went on the Mike Francesa show today and discussed the Rays and last night’s bench-clearing incident in which John Lackey hit Matt Joyce. For the most part Gammons is complimentary of the Rays, but he does get some digs in there.

He also shed some light on why Joe Maddon made a point to call Lackey a “bad teammate” noting that Lackey’s status as a good teammate has always been important to the pitcher…

  1. Andrew says:

Points for Mike Francesa for not falling asleep, in lieu of his fact error on how it’s “so hard for the Rays to score runs”

  2. Ricky C says:

Gammons took a shot at the Rays…what a shocker. He’s such a NE homer it is ridiculous

  3. Rome says:

I think Gammons speaks from his heart. His heart is in the Boston area. I think if this situation happened while the Rays were playing the Yankees or Orioles, Gammons might have a different reaction.

  4. Lane Meyer says:

No one ever went on the DL for being “chirped” at. Boston always has to resort to these antics if they can’t do it on the field.

  5. Bill says:

This is Gammoms chirping to get noticed so we don’t forget who he is.

  6. JJ says:

Let Fausto plunk Pappy between the letters tonight and see how the Sux chirp. Gammons is a condescending piece of Sux with an under the table six figure advisory contract with ???? Who do you think?

  7. bbmern says:

I was at the game last night and think Pedroia got plunked…on purpose, so now we’re even…maybe. I liked it.

  8. Rayalan says:

Why does no one remember Lackey for showing up his own teammates when he was with the Angels. It happened many times when one of his teammates would make an error he would go ballistic wtit his hands flailing in the air and grabbing the top of his head.

  9. Rayalan says:

This guy si talking about old news. The Rays are near the top in runs scored this year. Top five at the very least.

  10. TB10 says:

    Who is Peter Gammons?

  11. Bill says:

The sad but true fact is that you believe that bring nice and being the best at something must be mutually exclusive. Maddon believes he is being the best he can be by being understanding.

  12. JJ says:

All Maddon wants is an equal playing field once the game starts. Tough to get in the AL East.
