The GBT – The Good, The Bad and The Telling sandwich, where The Bad is nice and lean and the The Telling is ripe.
Red Sox 9, RAYS 2 (boxscore)
THE GOOD: Desmond Jennings Running. Jennings stole his first base since April 19, a stretch of 18 games. The Rays need Jennings to start running. As a team the Rays have just 21 stolen bases. Only 4 teams in the AL have fewer steals. The Rays have also been caught stealing 11 times, tied for the most in the AL…Cesar Ramos. Nice job by Ramos working 3 innings and saving the bullpen for tonight.
THE BAD: David Price. Price had to be pulled from the game in the third inning after suffering an injury. Price has a triceps strain, which in the big picture is a bit of a relief. However, he is expected to go on the DL…The Third Inning. The worst moment of course was David Price having to leave the game with a triceps injury. He was replaced by Jamey Wright who promptly gave up a double, a single, a walk, and a grand slam. In all the Sox scored 8 runs in the inning. It took Price and Wright 49 pitches to get through the inning. It was the first time the Rays had allowed 8 runs in an inning at home since 2010.
THE TELLING: Early speculation is that Jake Odorizzi will be called up to take David Price’s spot in the rotation. Odorizzi was one of the pitchers acquired in the James Shields trade with Kansas City and is the Rays’ 4th best prospect. The Rays are now 2-7 in Price’s 9 starts…The Rays are now 20-19, and remain 4.5 games behind the Yankees.
