Playing A Little Pepper

No Yunel Escobar tonight as Ben Zobrist will fill in at shortstop. According to the Rays, Escobar is “day to day.” And apparently Escobar doesn’t expect to be out long. Of course, they all say that…In last 20 seasons, only 4 teams shutout their opponents 5+ times in first 21 games. And 3 of them are this year (Rays, SF, Cards)…The Rays have allowed just 21 hits and 1 HR in the last 5 games…The Yankees did not have an extra-base hit in the last 2 games. That is the first time they have gone 2 straight games without any doubles, triples, or home runs since 2000.

Chris Sale is back. Last we saw him he's carving up the Rays with that big swooping motion like a Thanksgiving Turkey.

He had 1 miserable start in his 3rd of 4 starts in 2013 where he couldnt find the zone but other than that had good outings.

Tonight our resurgent (or actually only surgent) right hand bats will be taken to the test. Johnson gets a shot from the left side because he was actually 2 for 3 the only time he faced Sale. Not sure why Fuld is in there? Guess his D is thought to be better than Joyces.

This is the first casualty of the Cubano being dinged. He has to be replaced in the lineup by the overmatched Fuld against a killer southpaw. No other righties on the pine. Could Duncan play right and DH Molina? Get a hit and prove me wrong Sammy!
