Joe is back with his postgame thoughts…

Rays ace (?) David Price pitched pretty well tonight. For eight innings. His ninth inning, eh.

Price didn’t start the ninth inning well, got yanked for World Baseball Classic Fernando Rodney, who not only couldn’t hold the runners, he allowed two runs, one of which was on Price, for a 4-3 loss.

Dirtbag gave some hope to the Rays with a massive solo blast to left over the great Mariano Rivera, but that was all the Rays could muster.

Yes, Price pitched OK and in some respects, pitched good tonight. But it wasn’t good enough. It is very telling, not just for Price’s outlook this season but for the Rays’ outlook this season, that the reigning Cy Young Award winner is still looking for his first win after five starts. Guess you can forget about 20 wins this season.

If the Rays are to be playing in October, Price is going to have to turn his season around.

Prior to the game, Price said he was close to getting everything on track.

He is close. Not close enough.

Price is starting to come around. He’s kind of inherited James Shields’ luck his last couple of starts with very little offense.

Maddon thought Price should get Cano out…everybody else does….
