A fellow named Brent Hunter picked up a new Rays cap and posted the picture below to Twitter of his new Rays fashion cap.

Let’s ignore the lime green coloring as big league caps in other colors is a common practice for New Era. Rather, what is especially odd about this cap is that it is using the 1979 faux throwback logo and the 2007 “10 seasons” patch.

Of course, this is just a fashion cap, so they can do whatever they want. But that just seems like an odd combination to make. It was as if New Era just had a bunch of those patches filed away somewhere under “Rays throwback” and didn’t think to check that the two “throwback” elements had nothing to do with each other…

I picked up the gray and blue throwback (like the one picture above). But instead of the 2007 patch, it has a general "Tampa Bay Rays American League" patch. The one above made no sense to me. If they're going to use the 2007 patch, then use the 2007 hat logo. Oh well.

It appears that the patch has been custom colored to match the lime green... odd. I hate to admit it, but I kinda like it- a little.
