uspw_6405484Elliot Johnson, who was designated for assignment and removed from the 40-man roster last week, has been traded to the Royals as the “player to be named later” in the James Shields-Wade Davis-Wil Myers trade (via Marc Topkin).

On the one hand, I felt that a team that had room for Johnson on its 25 man roster was by definition a weak team.

But Elliott is really a "mensch." His exchanges with fans, esp those following him on Twitter, have always been lovely and seemed to convey a genuine enthusiasm for interacting with the folks whose support makes it possible for a grown man to be paid to play a game.

So I'm not sorry that the Elliott Johnson era is over, but I'll miss him.

    I'm at peace.

Not since Shawn Camp tourtured my soul in 2006-7 has a Rays player driven me to the lengths of despair as EJ, with JoMa raving about his "great speed" and owning the worst steal percentage in MLB. This make the Myers trade even better (addition by subtraction).

Seems like a good guy and I hope maybe like Camp he parlays this into a better second act after he stunk up the Trop for a couple of years. But glad he's officially gone in a place where JoMa can't write his name into the lineup card anymore.

I'm not, and never was, an E.J. fan, but he's a higher caliber PTBNL than I'd anticipated.
