Buster Olney of ESPN.com is reporting that JP Howell has agreed to a 1-year, $3 million deal.

Howell had been in the Rays organization since 2006 when he was acquired in a trade for Joey Gathright and Fernando Cortez. After making 18 starts for the Rays in 2006 and 2007, he was converted to the bullpen where he thrived until he tore the labrum in his throwing shoulder. He missed the entire 2010 season before returning and struggling in 2011.

    The man fought every batter and gave his to all the club every time on the mound. There were times in the last few years where some Rays fans were crapping all over him and wanting him gone.

    He battled back from injury had a hell of a year last year when we needed him.

    $3M for the Dodgers is what in Rays dollars? $900K?? Good rewards for him.

    Good luck to JP it was inevitable, on Friedmans budget its simply not a good buy.

    Good luck JP, gonna miss the swagger...

    @Don:
    You've been trolling around these parts for a few years now, and I speak on behalf of all the RI faithful when I say, "Kindly remove yourself from our website".
    You repeatedly spew nonsense that any real baseball fan can see as b.s. from a mile away. You should use RI as an opportunity to learn about the intricacies of baseball as opposed to a platform upon which to display your ignorance.

        Ugh. I've always been told not to argue with fools so as to ensure that people from a distance can tell us apart, but your response embodies the point that I was making-- its useless fodder.

        The screen-name "DirtbagFan" was a reference to Evan Longoria being a Long Beach State "Dirtbag" and my being a fan of his...

        I, contrary to your feeble-minded belief, am not a dirtbag.

    JoMa pitched Howell's arm off in 2009 when he was great until he coughed up a key game in Seattle. The org was good to him to let him rehab and not cast him aside. He's been doing it with smoke and mirrors since coming back, but he is lefty so he could go for a while.

    Really one of the few Rays pitchers to have arm trouble. His delivery was hardly textbook. But a good contributor who will have made a nice living by the time he retires.
