Last week the James Shields-for-Wil Myers trade seemed dead in the water as both teams appeared to want more. Well, now it sounds like the Royals have backed down from wanting more than just Shields for Myers and the potential deal seems to have new life. Bob Dutton reports (via Twitter) that the Royals “won’t hesitate” to deal Myers for Shields, but that they will have to sweeten the pot. It sounds like the sticking point now is just how much more the Royals are willing to throw in to get Shields. Meanwhile, Jon Heyman thinks (via Twitter) the Royals have to give up more than Myers. And Ken Rosenthal says (via Twitter) the Royals are at a “critical stage” in deciding whether to trade Myers for a starting pitcher, suggesting: a) they have other options besides Shields (Jon Lester?); and b) they have a specific offer on the table from the Rays who are just waiting for a yes or no.

And then late last night, Jeff Passan (via Twitter) said the Royals were meeting “to discuss plans” and that James Shields was a part of those discussions. However, Passan writes that a trade “still isn’t close.”

If I were the Royals i wouldnt trade a Myers for 2 years worth of Sheilds.

As far as 2013 goes at 23 he would be a late season call up at best and would offensively likely put up numbers similar to what we got out of Pena (home runs + alot of K's)

But going forward he would help the club in the future.

I would pull the trigger even up for James
