According to Roger Mooney of TBO.com (via Twitter), the Rays have Sean Rodriguez have reached an agreement on a 1-year, $1 million contract, avoiding arbitration.

    Really thought they'd non-tender him. Actually was hoping they'd let him go. Too bad. Seems like most organizations identify guys that are bench players at best and attempt to replace them. We seem to keep guys like this assuming there are no better options out there. Like we're going with the devil we know...

    They couldn't fit him in a 25 man roster late last year, now signing new players, where does he fit?...another .220 hitting infielder...
    Another example of Rays giving anybody a $1mil deal and see what happens...junk dealers...

    I guess I am in the minority but I like this deal. I would rather have him be the utility guy than any of the internal options (Brig, EJ, Fontenot). Sean Rod plays excellent D at 2nd, he is okay at Short and (until last season) he was decent at 3rd plus he can handle left handed pitching. He had a rough season last year but he was useful player off the bench in 2010 and 2011.
