The Oakland A’s beat the Texas Rangers, eliminating the Rays from postseason contention. And they did it with some help from some former Rays. First there was Josh Hamilton flying out to the warning track in the eighth inning with the Rangers trailing by one. And then it was Grant Balfour, The Mad Australian, who shot the door in the ninth.

Here’s the final strike…

    What an exhausting season.

    • Beazy says:

It sure was. We had the best record in the league the 1st month, a bunch of injuries, a lot roster shuffling, a lot of tight low scoring 1 runs games, many highs and lows of long stretches of winning streaks and losing steaks, and a huge hope the last couple of weeks winning when other teams weren't losing. All and all, it was quite a season, and let's not be to down, because we had the best team this year, though the 2013 World Series champs didn't make the playoffs this year...
      GO RAYS!!!

  2. Greg says:

I can't believe we'll probably win 90 games and not make the playoffs. You can always find games here and there throughout the year that we could have won, but we finished strong. Unfortunately, so did the A's and O's. Too bad one of the best pitching staffs I've ever seen won't play in the postseason. How is it possible that an American League team (facing DHs) allowed the least runs in MLB? Hats off to the boys on the bump. Rosenthal asked recently if the Rays messed up big by allowing one of the best pitching staffs in history to suffer with so little offense. Let's hope they can leverage some pitching into some proven bats. Pena and Scott show that the scrapheap doesn't usually work.

    • Drew says:

And Burrell, and Matsui, and Roberts, and Hank Blalock, and Felipe Lopez, and Shoppach, and Rhymes, and Conrad, and Sutton, and Thompson, and Allen, and Hawpe, and Molina, and...

Kotchman and Keppinger. Friedman needs to sign more guys with 'K' Last names.

  3. phil says:

Lot of offseason work to do... they have the pitching. They need to rebuild the lineup!

  4. Allen says:

Can Gimenez be the catcher for the future?
Will Pena be back or might Keppinger play first?
Zobrist and Longoria should be fixtures at ss and 3rd.
Jennings can play left or centerfield.
Who will the two other outfielders be? Not BJ?

Will Niemann join W. Davis in relief? Rodney is not a young man; can he repeat?

What will happen to McGee? Will he be the closer?

We ought to have lots of fun during the winter planning next year's roster. I'm really looking forward to spring.

  5. Beazy says:

The mucking Rangers shot us for the 3rd season in a row...
