Joe is back with his postgame thoughts….

Joe realizes the Rays flushed numerous chances to put runs on the board in the 3-2 walkoff loss in Baltimore last night. It was on the damn bats. But Joe still has to question why the move to Kyle Farnsworth to open the ninth when Fernando Rodney was loose in the bullpen.

Who’s the better pitcher? In obviously a supremely critical spot in a critical game?

Joe Maddon managed at times like it was a playoff game, rightfully so, but not all the time. He yanked a viable Alex Cobb in the fifth inning for Jake McGee to get a matchup to close out the fifth. Brilliant. But then he left in Jose Molina to bat with the bases loaded in the sixth?

Maddon talked after the game about needing to “get more offense somewhere.” Well, Molina in that spot is more about prayer and miracles than anything else.

Speaking of prayer, the Rays might need a higher authority if they lose this afternoon and get swept by Baltimore. They Rays’ current plight is a great reminder for all fans who believe there’s such thing as a meaningless April, May, June, July or August game.

There were two instances where pinch hitting lefty like Fuld was appropriate and he didn't do it. Right after one, he brought Fuld in for D anyway. Huh ?

Also, could have had Kep bunt BJ to third after the successful steal. Kep's non productive out there was a buzz kill. I know he is hitting near .330. But the odds are still against him. You saw him pressing to hit the opposite way.

Many times he didn't manage like a playoff game.

Showalter would have brought in Matusz (a lefty) who was warming up in the bullpen. Maddon thought Ben F. against the righty was a better matchup than Fuld against the lefty.

I was asking, very loudly where is Rodney? This time of year we need to go with the best we got in all situations. And last time I checked Rodney is the best in all of baseball. So we lose without even using our best pitcher. Disgusting. And why rest Jennings? He should have been in left,Keppinger at first and Fransisco DH. Why the hell are we still resting people? Memo to Joe, its Sept. We need to win. And if Price is feeling OK, He should be pitching instead of going back to back with 2 rookies. These are must win games. I don't get it.

You have to save Rodney for when we have the lead on the road. If Rodney pitches the 9th and we go into extra innings, who would pitch for us in the save situation when we took the lead in extra innings? You throw your closer in the 9th inning in a tie game when you are the home team. In this situation your closer will never be in a save situation so you use him in the 9th hoping your home team can have a walk off win.

I was very frustrated at these specific points, especially when I saw that Farnsworth had lost 5 games already - in only 27 appearances!!! WTF??!!! And, just as Fuld came in after he should have pinch-hit, Molina was pulled also, after he wasted a bases-loaded opp'y!! Why have extra players around if Maddon doesn't use them?? Except for Thompson, & we saw how well that turned out!! Grrrrrr!!!!
