Joe is back with his postgame thoughts….

Men of faith still believe in the 2012 Rays.

Who else could?

And these men of faith were rewarded tonight with a six-run, walk-off ninth inning, one that saw Joe Maddon successfully pinch hit with career-hitless Stephen Vogt in a critical spot. Then Desmond Jennings tied the game with a two-run single and B.J. Upton sent a crushing bomb to the heavens to finish off the Red Sox 7-4.

Most Rays fans saw these late heroics simply as a just bailout of David Price. The Rays shamefully let Price down tonight by not showing up with the bats to help his quest for a 20-win season. But others surely saw this miracle finish — and last night’s hit show — as a sign that the Rays have one more magical run left in the tank.

At six games out of the Wild Card with 12 games to go, the Rays need a near perfect finish.

For now, just for a little while, Joe’s going to dare to dream.

I have to admit I was happy that they tied it up and got Price off the hook. The win was a bonus. Price is going to have to win 20 to get the Cy Young. If it’s between a 19 win 2.50 ERA Price and a 20 win 2.80 ERA Weaver, I think they give it to Weaver. How many more starts does Price have? 2?

So, I just went to look at some stats for the first time in a while, and don’t look now, but Cabrera is really, really close to the Triple Crown. First in AVG (.332 vs .326 for Trout), First in RBI (130 to Hamilton’s 123) and second in HRs (41 to Hamilton’s 42). I think this is the latest and the closest anyone has been to the award in a long time.

It doesn’t matter, we’re now only 2.5 games out from getting it to 3 in the last series against the O’s in the last series of the season @ the Trop…
    Go Rays!, and go Sox…

Who’d a thunk it?!! Certainly not me!!! Especially seeing Vogt coming up to bat w/the game on the line!!! I almost upchucked my beverage seeing he was JoeMAD’s choice at that time!! Was somewhat relieved when Thompson stole 2nd b/c that minimized the potential for a DP. Who knew??? I’ll gladly swallow my pride to honor the Rays’ win!!!

To quote the ever present (if currently unpopular) Dickie V, “Awesome, Baby”!!! :D

If they can just pull off a trade for Home Run Dan Johnson I will be a complete believer again.

IF Rays are perfect (ok,lose one) and one of the two teams..Orioles or A’s lose 8 games(well below .500) we ARE alive….
not alive in Las Vegas odds but still fighting …from a self inflict wound…

Oakland plays 3 games @ NYY and 7 games against Tex. So there is a real possibility that the A’s could lose 8 games between now and the end of the season.
