The GBT – The Good, The Bad and The Telling sandwich, where The Bad is nice and lean and the The Telling is ripe.

Blue Jays 2, RAYS 0 (boxscore)

THE GOOD: Give Me A Moment. Well, there was the. No. Oh yeah, Luke Scott had a. Noooo. Ummmm. Surely BJ Upton had a. Nope. I give up.

THE BAD: Zero. That is 9 times this season that the Rays have been shutout. And it was the 6th time in August! The 9 shutouts is already more than the Rays had in 2008, 2009, or 2010. And that may seem bad (it is), but did you know the Rays were shutout 15 times last year? I think it just seems worse this year because it feels like they all happened in the last two weeks. And last year there were a lot of 6-0 and 7-0 losses. This year they are 1-0 and 2-0 which makes it feel like more like the Rays are missing huge opportunities.

THE TELLING: Luke Scott started at 1B, and Carlos Pena will now share that position with Scott and Jeff Keppinger…The Rays are now 1.5 games behind the Orioles for the 2nd Wild Card. And all of a sudden, catching the Yankees doesn’t seem so important anymore (the Rays trail the Yankees by 4.5, 5 in the loss column).

    7) Longo at 3rd where he belongs CHECK!

Its ironic in this game where the team basically gave the lineup that fans who have been the most critical of the Rays have asked for. What do we then proceed to do? Lay another fat goose egg.

At least they scored 2 so we didnt have to extend that silly record. Oh well on to game 2 in the Caribou Hangar

WHen is the last time you heard me cry about the lineup…(besides pena hitting 2nd which was ignorant) I gave up when it was evident Madon doesn’t have a clue, close your eyes and pick out 9 out of a hat..you have Maddons lineup…can’t wait for tonights…Pena hitting cleanup??

I don’t get it. Everybody is so excited Scott has replaced Pena at 1B. What does Scott do? He gets 3 official at-bats and strikes out two times. Let’s see now, who else does that? Oh yeah, it’s Karlos himself. The only difference is Carlos may have had a perfect night at the plate, going 0-3 with 3 strikeouts. I see very little advantage in having Scott replace Pena at first. I see very little advantage having Pena at first. Both are losers. Could Joyce learn to play 1st?
