Marc Topkin is reporting that Sean Rodriguez broke his hand when he punched a locker in frustration after Sunday’s game with the Durham Bulls.

Did I mention that this was a game that the Bulls won and Rodriguez had a double and a home run? Turns out there was some sort of confrontation with an unnamed teammate that Topkin described as a “postgame situation.”

So you might think this wasn’t the smartest thing Rodriguez has ever done. Hot Rod agrees with you…

“Definitely the dumbest thing I’ve ever done,” Rodriguez said by phone.

Was it dumber than the time Rodriguez lost his job because his condo flooded and a day later he still couldn’t catch the team flight, ultimately costing him his job? It’s close.

In the meantime, Rodriguez, who was expected to rejoin the Rays next week, is hoping to be ready in a week. But that would seem excessively optimistic at this point, even if it is a minor break.

Guess that ruins my predictions of him being a sure fire September call up.

    You see the implications right?

If he were back in the big leagues and Luke was rhythmically slapping his back side to the next guys walk up music, none of this would have happened. His tension would have been diminished.

Durham lacks a good morale officer apparently.

Crash Davis specifically counsels Nuke Laloosh against throwing fists in anger in the opening scene of Bull Durham. I guess S-Rod missed that lecture.

Bummed for him. I really like the guy, and doing time in the minors while Elliot is in the majors would have had me punching lockers too.

Sad!! Guess 'Hot Rod' is a good moniker for him, eh? His temper unfortunately earned it when his talent never could, though he certainly tried :( SMH
