Hideki Matsui’s tenure with the Rays lasted 34 games and 103 plate appearances. He hit a whopping two home runs and hit just .147. But that hasn’t stop somebody from bidding nearly $14,000 for his game used and autographed Turn Back the Clock jersey and pants (at right).
[UPDATE] The auction is now over, with Matsui’s uni going for $13,620.
For comparison, Evan Longoria’s “game used” throwback uni (he was in uniform that night even though he was on the DL) is currently at $1,491. And at the other end of the spectrum, Jose Lobaton‘s is at $270.
On a side note, why does Alex Cobb’s auction only include the jersey? Every other auction includes jersey and pants. Did Cobb have an accident?

Lots of Reid Brignac game-used shoes and gloves available. Would they be worth more if they didn’t have his autograph?
One would have to assume that the $14,000 was paid in Japanese Yen.
It’s for charity. Probably Matsui himself or someone in his family. After all, it is completely unique for sure now. Rays might wear them again, but he won’t.
how about a Matsui “bearly used” bat..how much is that worth? IT cost the Rays an easy $1mil….
