The 1979 faux throwbacks the Rays were wearing on Saturday night have proven to be a big hit among Rays fans, with many purchasing the jerseys and the caps. There’s just one problem. The caps being sold are not the same as the model worn by the Rays on Turn Back the Clock Night.

This side-by-side comes from the good folks at Uni-Watch.com. See the difference?

Like the San Diego Padres of the late ’70s, the Rays’ throwback lids had a narrow front panel for the light blue coloring. From the front, it looks more like the sail on a boat…

But the Rays throwback caps took a shortcut and just made the two front panels of a standard cap light blue, giving a much wider look to the light blue coloring, and a much different look to the cap.

Interestingly, as of this morning, the throwback caps are not available at the MLB online shop, even though the throwback jerseys can be ordered.

I am flabbergasted that these caps are not for sale yet? I have been craving for an online sale, and I have yet to be obliged!!
