Matt Joyce played in a rehab assignment game last night for the Durham Bulls, and according to the Herald-Sun, asked to be taken out of the game after three at bats after feeling something in his back

The only bad news for the Bulls was that Joyce left the game early. The 2011 AL All-Star, who has been on the DL since June 20 with lower back tightness, asked out of the game after three at-bats…“He felt something, and when somebody feels something in rehab, you take them out,” [Bulls Manager Charlie] Montoyo said.

Hopefully he just felt sore and didn’t want to push things. But considering the way things are going for the Rays this season, you’ll forgive me if I assume the worse.

No kidding. I’m waiting for something like “In lieu of flowers, please send donations of runs to the Tampa Bay Rays in Matt’s honor.”
