Playing A Little Pepper

What are the chances the Rays add a catcher before this year’s trade deadline?

If the Rays do add a catcher, it is more likely to be a triple-A catcher to give the team a little more depth. And it would seem they will need the depth at some point. Whether it is a serious injury or just needing rest, we would be surprised if Jose Molina doesn’t hit the DL at some point. But if you want one big name to keep an eye on, there is still Ivan Rodriguez out there. He says he is retired. But he was looking for work in the spring and claimed to be in shape. Pudge is a long-shot, but it seems more likely than trading for a big name…TRIPLE-A DEPTH

Lineup…

  1. Flash Jennings, LF
  2. BJ Upton, CF
  3. Ben Zobrist, 2B
  4. Hideki Matsui, RF
  5. Sean Rodriguez, 3B
  6. Carlos Pena, 1B
  7. Luke Scott, DH
  8. Jose Molina, C
  9. Elliot Johnson, SS
  10. James Shields, SP

Absolutely disgusting to not see Matt Joyce in RF. I’m a pissed off die hard Rays fan. How the hell does this make our line up better? Anybody care to defend this move?

  2. Dave L says:

I would have had Luke Scott sit one and DH Joyce.

    Pettite has killed him.

Fanned him 5 outta 12 with no walks.

  3. Gus says:

How about DH Jennings to make sure he’s good to go and play Joyce?

Joyce has had his career development stunted by hundreds of at bats by Gabe Kapler and other RH stiffs. Joyce has a swing tailor made for that bandbox. Scott should not be taking at bats from him if it comes down to that.

Glad to see Zobrist back at 2b.

Did Moonlight Graham finish with just one hit? Kind of poetic if he never makes it back. Neat story. Wish he was RH and could have hit some.

Im watching the Yanks pre game on YES, never watched it before( I will watch the Rays pregame next on Sun Sports after so relax out there)

They said this is the Rays 2nd worst team BA ever at this point in the season…….

    Ever, let that sink in

    Ouch!

The errors. The errors are going to kill me.

  6. Rob says:

These errors as getting to be B.S. Anyone notice that most of them are on throws? Either their footwork is completely mangled, they are squeezing the throws or just not focused.

And speaking of not focused, does it look like Molina just got out of bed? He seems as though he is in a fog behind the plate. I have a bad feeling about this series.

    Just saying.

  7. CC says:

Can we please get a major league shortstop. Eliot Johnson has got to be the worst shortstop in mlb. .

  8. Rob says:

It is not as bad as 2010, but Shields is close to his career HR/9inn rate. It was way down last year, which may have explained some of his success. Also, he had 4 WPs all of last year and he already has 6 this year – he had 13 in 2010.

    • Dave L says:

If we had a catcher who actually moved his body to block WP instead of throw his glove at them I think that number would be lower. For being a ‘defensive catcher’, Molina is a horrible backstop
