We are starting to learn more about the fallout from Ken “Hawk” Harrelson’s on-air, anti-umpire rant (VIDEO CAN BE SEEN HERE). And it sounds like the folks in the league’s office aren’t too happy with Hawk (via ESPN Chicago)…
“I talked to Bud Selig yesterday,” Harrelson told ESPNChicago.com’s Bruce Levine on Friday morning. “We had a talk. Actually, Bud talked and I listened. If it was a prize fight, they would have stopped it in the first round…I also talked to [White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf], and I listened to him as well. That’s all I really have to say.”
Sounds like Hawk got a bit of a lecture on how to treat the umpires and how not to tell Major League Baseball how to do their job.
In the original rant, Harrelson said that Wegner “knows nothing about the game of baseball,” demanding that he be suspended and “if [Major League Baseball] wants to keep him as an umpire, send him back to school and teach him what the game of baseball is about.”
Hawk later added that there are some umpires “that have no business umpiring because they have no idea what the game of baseball is about.”
In separate interview, Harrelson added that he was so upset during the game that he got a terrible headache that lasted into the next day (via BI Sports)…
“First of all I still have a headache because I got so upset yesterday. I took four Advil after that inning was over and then I had to take four more on the plane and then when I got home last night I had to take four more. Also when I got up this morning I had to take four more…”
