Despite Ben Zobrist’s best effort to let the Marlins back in the game with two eighth-inning errors that didn’t show up in the box score, the Rays’ bullpen put the broom down Miami for a glorious 4-2 win today.
(Karlos Pena escaped a major fielding gaffe in the ninth, as well.)
Joe’s still absoutely smitten at this point with Jake McGee, who bailed out winner James Shields in the seventh. McGee and Fernando Rodney , or the 2010 version of Joaquin Benoit and Rafael Soriano? Joe would take the former pairing at this point.
Elliot Johnson and Zobrist stayed hot on the heels of last night’s slugfest, and Matt Joyce added a solo bomb to spot Shields a 4-zip lead after 3 1/2 innings.
A 4-2 road trip? Joe’s going to take that every time.
