Yankees are going to be sold to Jeter, moved to Tampa, and Stuie and the Rays are going to N. Carolina,Las Vegas or some other Hell whole…good luck…

If you read the press release from Quinnipiac (http://www.quinnipiac.edu/institutes-and-centers/polling-institute/florida/release-detail?ReleaseID=1754) I think it actually contains good news for the Rays. They find an interest in baseball across the population that is comparable to the level of interest found in the NY area.

And although the headline may read “Yankees favorite team in Florida”, another way to frame it is “Yankees barely more popular than Rays statewide; Rays most popular team within Tampa Bay area.”

Just 5 years ago, when old man Steinbrenner had many of Tampa’s politicos on his dole, had police cars sporting Yankee logos in Tampa, the Yankees would have been more popular than the Rays in the local area.

Dallas Cowboys or Steelers probably more popular than the Bucs in the state as well.

The Rays are slowing turning Tampa Bay back into a great baseball market (it was a huge baseball town before the Bucs arrived). TV ratings very good. Weekend attendance not bad. Getting there despite the worst economy in the country.
