The GBT – The Good, The Bad and The Telling sandwich, where The Bad is nice and lean and the The Telling is ripe.

White Sox 7, RAYS 2 (boxscore)

THE GOOD: Godzilla. Hideki Matsui came. He met with the media. He just missed a home run. He hit a home run. He met with the media again. Here’s the video. Note how he knows instantly that it is gone. And also note the huge smile on his face as he crosses home plate.

THE BAD: James Shields. In his defense, there is not much he could have done short of a shutout. But he was not good last night. Strangely, it wasn’t the home run that beat Shields. It was 9 singles and a double that turned into 6 runs (5 earned).

THE TELLING: 30-35 members of the Japanese media were on hand to see and talk with Hideki Matsui…The Rays are still tied with the Orioles atop the AL East.

  2. Mike Roosa says:

I'm just wondering why Pena is still batting leadoff? It was fun for one game when he got a homer and a couple of hits, but does Pena at leadoff really give us the best chance to win the game?

    • Cork Gaines says:

I've been wondering the same thing. It was supposed to jump start him, and he did have a couple of good games. But now it is starting to look semi-permanent. However, I assume that will change on Tuesday when Jennings is back.
