Earlier this year Luke Scott had some choice words for Fenway Park. And after being hit last night, Bobby Valentine insinuated that was why he got beaned

“Maybe it was the Ghost of Fenway Past remembering he bad-mouthed all our fans and our stadium, directing the ball at his leg,” Valentine said.

OK, maybe Valentine is just deflecting from the real reason that Scott got hit (Dustin Pedroia being hit earlier in game?). But if not…

Holy Most Idiotic Reason For A Beanball Ever Batman!!

If people got hit a by a pitch every time they said something unflattering about another stadium/fanbase/team/player/manager, balls would be buzzing by Bobby V.’s head all the time.

Here are Scott’s original comments

“As a baseball player, going there to work, it’s a dump…I mean, it’s old. It does have a great feel and nostalgia, but at the end of the day, I’d rather be at a good facility where I can get my work in. A place where I can go hit in the cage, where I have space and it’s a little more comfortable to come to work…You’re packed in like sardines there. It’s hard to get your work in. … You have to go to their weight room if you want to lift. From a fan’s perspective, it’s probably pretty cool to go see a game at a historic park. But from a player’s point of view, it’s not a place where you want to go to work.”

Meanwhile, after Joe Maddon’s post-game press conference (watch full video here), he was still firing shots on Twitter

Very proud of our effort 2nite. What occurred in the 9th reeked of intent. Was ridiculous, absurd, idiotic, incompetent, cowardly behavior.

And he is absolutely right.

Isn't it ironic that Boston has to retailate because someone speaks the TRUTH about their park....Fenway is a 100 yr. old dump...not a relic
WE (me) have to listen to every ignorant fan and uniformed Media from around the country what a bad place the Trop is to watch a baseball game....they speak with no experience...
But they are really repeating what they hear from OUR media and non-attending fans....Time to hurt someone?

It was desperation. Bobby V ordered it. He knows he has lost the clubhouse AND the fans. That is why he made the "ghosts of Fenway" comment. The clown probably thinks Pedrioa's beaning was intentional and he figured he could kill two birds with one stone.

They have become a joke of an organization. They are Bush League and beneath the Rays in every way.

Well said, Rivals!! That team seems like anything but a team, so they must be envious when they see one w/such good chemistry, like the Rays. Plus they have at least 2 guys who have experienced the difference themselves; would luv to be a fly on the walls of their clubhouse ;)

That statement just typifies why Valentine is the "Barry Melrose" of MLB. Immature, purely emotional and completely unnecessary. It's almost as if he couldn't control his Look-At-Me nature and had to give a verbal "wink" following his denial that they threw at Scott intentionally.

What a turd. I have no love for the Sox, but their house cleaning just reeks of emotional overreaction. So you had a major end-of-season slide. Big Fing Deal! It's baseball. It happens. Thing is, you accomplished more under Francona and Epstein than you did in the previous 100 years.

Just watching Valentine's demeanor and the way he stands on the steps of the dugout, all puffed up and dickish, is such a contrast to Francona, who (like Maddon) seems like a pretty cool guy. It's enough to actually make me feel sorry for some of those players. . .

    . . . Almost.
