In the top of the 8th inning of today’s game, Carlos Pena went for a foul ball near the stands. As he reached over the wall, a fan from the second row reached at the same time, and the ball fell to the ground. Geiger was then escorted from the section.

Well, it turns out, that fan was Matt Geiger who played ten seasons in the NBA with the Heat, Hornets, and 76ers. He is also from Clearwater.

[Update: Geiger was not kicked out of The Trop. Rather, he was just removed from the adult table and taken to a different seat]

Here’s the play, and click the <Read More..> below for a couple of screengrabs of Geiger…

Here is a closer shot…

And here is the Geiger being escorted out…

Same thing almost happened last night in the same area!! While Pena warrants some blame for misjudging where the ball would land (behind him in both cases), the STUPID FANS in that area need to get their heads in the game & realize they could actually negatively influence their team’s record!!! As we found out last year, each & every game counts!!!

    So, get w/it, Rays fans!!!

@BW, if you are referring to the fellow in the grey shirt and white hat, from what I remember he gave Matt a high 5 when he walked by him.
The “older fellow” may have been yelling at security in this pic.

Well when your core is 12,000 and the numbers are over double that, lets just say we dont have the most savy fans in baseball.

Then a bunch of nuckleheads high fived him on the way out.

So that makes it 3 by my count and its only April.

The video shows clear as day the ball was either in play, or going to hit the rail at worst. When I heard it on the radio, the announcer had it sound like the ball was in the seats.

So, let me get this straight, if I interfere with a play I’m only going to be relocated to a different seat? Cool, at least I won’t miss the game! Put me in the front row!
