It is bad enough that we have to hear the national sports experts constantly refer to the local baseball team as the “Tampa Rays.” But now our very own governor is confused by this “Tampa Bay” regional moniker.
When told by reporters that the St. Pete Times will be changing its name to the Tampa Bay Times, in January, Gov. Scott had a curious response…
“Does the region call itself the Tampa Bay region? Is that what it calls itself? The region does?”
Yes Mr. Governor. It is “Tampa Bay,” as in the “Tampa Bay Rays Professional Baseball Club.” That is the same team you visited back in April and threw out the first pitch.
And while we are at it, the state calls itself “Florida,” and occasionally “The Sunshine State.” Write that down.
