Looking at the picture below, you might think that this season added a few years to Joe Maddon’s impressive resume. But in reality, it all stems back to a pledge before the season that he would go the entire season without cutting his hair, and was encouraging his team to do the same…
Of course, the team’s most famous locks belong to one Evan Michael Longoria, and while he went long and shaggy early, and later went for the Wild (Thing) look. More recently, he has gone as short as possible without being bald.
Hey, we went along with JoeMa’s mantra for a long time. But then a few weeks ago it started to look like there was roadkill laying on top of my head and my daughter screamed in horror. So off it went.
We’re pleading with JoeMa to do the same.

We’ve suffered through his hair all year — what’s the rush now?
When another team clinches the wild card he can go to the barber.
I’m not ready to throw in the towel just yet. So many head to head games left to be tapping out.
And along those lines, anyone hear an update on Becket’s ankle? It would sure help our cause if he had to miss a few starts.
Doesn’t look good (for Beckett). Headed back to Boston this morning to see a specialist. Beckett described it as something he had never felt before.
Not impossible. But they almost have to sweep the remaining games with the Sox. That’s a lot to ask in baseball.
Of course, we all know the odds. But the manager is supposed to be the one who, at least publicly, reminds us that it’s not over ’till it’s over. So I say the hair stays.
And let’s hope he comes up with a method to show his enthusiasm that’s a little easier on the eye next year. Maybe a tattoo?
Get it to 4 by the end of week and see what happens. Be nice to see the Sawx fans in a tizzy.
Maddon has been getting a “haircut’ the whole season..mostly at the trop…
you just didn’t notice
Well now that Becketts out with an ankle injury and NOT pitching against us this weekend, we have a chance. Actually Mitch Williams pointed that out recently with that on quick pitch. Now that Beckett’s out, they only have Lester, so we still have a (slim) chance if the Red Sox contuinue to falter.
