Marc Topkin is reporting that Matt Moore’s stint in the rotation has ended after one start, five innings, and 11 strikeouts.

Maddon said rookie LHP Matt Moore will return to the bullpen but likely won’t be available until Sunday or Monday after throwing 84 pitches in his first major-league win Thursday. Maddon said LHP David Price will start Wednesday’s regular-season finale, following RHP James Shields (Monday) and RHP Jeremy Hellickson (Tuesday) in the Yankees series.

We have a feeling that might be different if the Rays had won one or two more games in the last week.

To put a positive spin on this:

    1. We wouldn’t have seen him at all if there had been no pennant chase in Sept (thanks, Red Sox!)
    2. If somehow we still end up tied for the Wild card and there’s a one game playoff, maybe Moore pitches that one (since we’ll use up the three top starters in the Yankees series).

Since Jeff looked very bad tonight. I would think Moore would pitch the one game playoff game next Thursday. It will be interesting to see if the Rays use Matt in relief during any of the next 4 games or save him for next Thursday

I would venture a guess that the one-game playoff would be started on short rest by Shields, with Torres and Moore ready to go for relief.

I would be shocked if they tried to pitch Shields on TWO days rest. I believe their best chance would be to start Moore and then go to Torres. I would hope they would not pitch Jeff period!!!
