The Rays met this week with their top draft pick, Taylor Guerrieri. And with Monday’s deadline to sign draft picks looming, neither side has made a contract proposal

Chris Guerreri said the meeting with Friedman and scouting director R.J. Harrison featured “nice conversation” but apparently not financial specifics as he didn’t know yet if the team’s offer would be what they were seeking, which he also didn’t disclose. The recommended slot bonus, according to Baseball America, is $1.242 million.

Teams have until August 15th to sign their draft picks (non-college seniors). If the Rays do not sign Guerrieri, they will receive a comparable draft pick in the 2012 draft.

Doesn’t even sound like the Rays think they can get…and they probably cant

he will sign. 11:59 pm on the 15th. just like anyone else who is over slot enough for MLB to hold back the signing.

The only one of the first rounders not signed that surprises me is Garvin but by August 15th midnight (or I guess Aug 16th), they will all sign. Guerreri was our first out of all our picks, he knows he can cash in.

Isn’t this just par for the course?

Yep. I don’t see any doubt we sign all the first rounders and it’s gonna be nice to add Guerreri and Mahtook to the system. Big Goedell fan also.
