The GBT – The Good, The Bad and The Telling sandwich, where The Bad is nice and lean and the The Telling is ripe.

Matt Joyce was the lone Rays player to appear in last night’s All-Star game (who woulda thunk that before the season?).  He went 1-2 with a single, and was seen chasing several balls in left field.

  • The Rays spread their payroll around better than most teams. [Business Insider]
  • Jimmie Giles will be the Rays second Bucs third member of their Ring of Honor. [Joe Bucs Fan]
  • The Cardinals may be willing to trade center fielder Colby Rasmus (think BJ Upton, but a little cheaper and with less melanin). Joe Strauss says the Rays have shown interest. [stltoday]
  • John Sickels breaks down Matt Moore. A couple of things worth pointing out. Moore did not hit 100 mph in the Futures Game. That was a juiced gun. He topped out at 98 according to Pitchf/x. Also, he doesn’t typically throw that hard. He was able to amp it up because he was only working one inning. [Minor League Ball]

It's kinda eerie if you look at the age 22-24 season stats of both Rasmus (his major league career to date) and Upton how nearly identical they are.

I've wanted to get Rasmus here for awhile, but this might be the perfect time to bring him in. No matter how disappointed we are in Bossman, the fact is that he's having his best season since 2007 and there might never be a better time to sell. You bring in Rasmus, you can expect similar production for less money and more years of control, AND you can sell high on Bossman and bring in some new pieces to keep the system stocked or make a run this year (I know there was some talk about matching up with the Nationals and one of their relievers in a deal for Bossman).

All that said, Bossman is my favorite Rays player and I will be sad to see him go. I know he drives everyone nuts, but he's also just an amazing athlete to watch do his thing.

Cork...you have laid out a few options for an Upton deal and it seems the Nats do have some nice peices the Rays could use. I would love to see a deal with Pudge, Clippard and maybe an Ian Desmond or Roger Bernadina. Pudge could serve as a nice tutor for the younger guys...mainly the ones in AAA. Maybe we could send Shop-vac over in the deal too. Think the Cards could make a nice offer if Rasmus is a starting point. Thoughts?

That'd be the 3rd not 2nd member of the ring of honor.

Joyce gets his All star hit...hope there aren't a lot of lefties pitching this week or he will be sitting on the bench and some minor league player or a .230 hitter will be starting in his place.... ala Joe Maddon

Well even if that .230 was what the player was hitting against LHP, it would be a 42 point increase over Matt Joyce's .188 against LHP this year. Lucky for us he has improved on his .172 career avg against LHP.

Would the Rays seriously consider Beltran? Mets selling and the Rays are listed as one of the teams with interest and/or need by MLB trade rumors.
