Scott Kazmir made his fourth start on a rehab assigment for the Angels and was so wild that in just 3.2 innings, he walked 5, hit 3 more and even threw 3 pitchers behind right-handed batters. According to the LA Times, it is now just “a matter of time” before he is released by the Angels. [LA Times]

  1. Beth says:

Too bad for Scotty, but….tragedy? Guy makes millions playing a game and then realizes he needs to consider other career options sooner than he would have liked? Not, in my book, a tragedy.

  2. Hal says:

Just sucks for him, but I agree there’s no tragedy here. We should all remember that he was the sole reason to go to Devil Rays games for a couple of years; well, him and CC…..and Estaban Yan. I’ve been thinking – it seems that pitchers who rely on a power slider have about a 3 to 4 year window at best before they fall off the shelf. There are exceptions, but I’d much rather have a guy who leans fastball, change than a guy who leans fastball, slider.

    • Derek says:

It’s a good thing we don’t have any fastball slider guys then….

      Oh, crap. David Price.

      • cubfanraysaddict says:

He throws his slider about 7% of the time up from 5% last year, not really a FB/SL guy anymore like in ’08. (His CH and CB are at about 20% w/ the FB getting the rest of the usage FYI)

  3. Chris O'Donne says:

But in the classical sense, isn’t a tragedy something that gives the audience pleasure via the pain and suffering of somebody else? I would say that fits here.

  4. Don says:

It was a tragedy for the Angels to pay him$25mil …………Good “dump” Friedman…”everything came out allright”

  5. Joe D. says:

I’m assuming he becomes a FA, no claims him, do the Rays offer him a Minor League deal, since they know him, and try to get something out if him?
