One year ago on Rays Index the shite hit the fan. First Stuart Sternberg said baseball “will not work longterm in downtown St. Pete.” Then St. Pete Mayor Bill Foster said he expects the Rays to remain in downtown St. Pete until 2027. To which Sternberg responded by saying he will sell the team if there isn’t any cooperation. Sternberg even went so far as to say that there are five better markets than the Tampa-St. Pete area that don’t currently have teams.
