Wednesday was not a good day to be an ex-Rays player…
- Scott Kazmir was released by the Angels even though they still owe him about $9.5 million ($7M this year and a $2.5M buyout of his 2012 contract).
- Jorge Cantu was released by the Padres.
- Rafael Soriano was moved to the 60-day DL which means he won’t be back in pinstripes anytime soon.
As for Kazmir. Don’t look for a the Rays to pick him up on the cheap. All indications are that Kazmir doesn’t have a lot of fans in the Rays front office.
Is his career over? That depends.
Kazmir needs to swallow his pride and realize that his days of throwing 97 mph fastballs are over. If he can reinvent himself as a soft-tossing reliever with a good breaking ball, he could be serviceable.

Not surprised.
It’s time to call up the bookies. We need a vegas line on if Soriano ever plays for the Yankes again.
And then there’s Cory Wade and Chris Carter who never quite made it.
Maybe he puts a call into R.A Dickey or my boy Timmy Wakefield.
It would make for a nice story if Alderson signs him, and he resurrects his career for the Mets.
He has more of a shot at making it than at least one other person in the organization. Take a flyer on him I’d say.
