Marc Topkin is reporting that the Rays are ecpected to recall Alex Cobb from Durham and will start for the Rays tomorrow. The move means Andy Sonnanstine’s time in the rotation has finally come to an end. Sonny can now get back to doing what he does well, cleaning up messes left by other pitchers. Can it be true? please! Topkin if your lying and jumping the gun on this report ..you will be deleting a lot of my comments in the next few days ….Do ANDY a favor and send him back where he belongs(Durham)..he does not belong here…
About damn time. Now please, PLEASE pitch well Cobb or Maddon will put Sonny right back in that rotation.
I wish it was Sonny going to Durham actually but I would guess it’s Gomes.
Joe, you’re probably right. Even though Gomes has pitched pretty well, he’ll get demoted so Sonny can pitch once every 12 games for an inning.
I’m glad to see an alternative to Sonnanstine as a starter, but I don’t think his work as a reliever merits this level of disrespect. I think he’s been fine as a long-reliever when he’s been used in that role. In fact, if you look back to the day when Niemann was pulled early complaining of back pains, you’ll see the Sonnanstine came in to pitch 3 scoreless innings and keep the Rays in a close game. At that time, his ERA was just above 2.
Demoted? Demoted?? “I’ll take that as a confidence builder” says Sonny.
