We know there are some of you out there that wish you could see what some of the young guys like Matt Joyce and Sean Rodriguez could do if given a shot to play everyday. And if you are one of those people, you will want to sit down for this.

For the foreseeable future, Reid Brignac will platoon at shortstop with Elliot Johnson (via TampaBay.com)…

“Part of it is that Elliot Johnson has done so well and there is no reason to really push Reid on the lefties as much,” Maddon said. “We’ve been seeing a lot of righties, we’re going to see a lot more righties so he’s going to still have the preponderance of play. … As Reid gets a little more proficient against lefties I might throw him back out there.”

Johnson started at shortstop last night, his third start of the year at the position. He moved to second base late in the game and bobbled a tailor-made double-play ball, getting only the batter at first base. He has also started two of the three games versus lefties.

So far this season, Johnson is 3-9 versus lefties and 1-5 versus righties. Brignac is 4-19 versus righties and 1-3 versus lefties.in his career, Briggy Baseball is a .268 hitter versus righties and a .174 hitter against southpaws.

As we have always said, Joe Maddon would have sat Babe Ruth against a tough lefty. This is what he does, so we better get used to it.

brignac Joyce& Rodz were handed eveyday ML jobs at the beginning of the year...none that I can see have taken advantage of the opportunity..
SO let the best man play...Elliot Johnson, Fuld, Lopez..whoever is doing the Job(Hitting) gets to play...so be it

Wow. I think Maddon has straight lost his mind. Jaso leading off has been tough to live through. 2 days ago it was Felipe Lopez hitting cleanup. Now Brignac platooning w/....Elliot Johnson? Who? This computer driven, matchup approach works w/ pitchers, and is arguably part of their job description, but does not work with batters. I think we're seeing the beginning stages of this approach finally falling apart. Zobrist, Joyce, Johnson, etc were already frustrated; now Brignac too? How annoying is it to show up at the ballpark everyday and not know whether or not you'll be in the lineup, and if so where you'll be hitting. This lack of offense lies on his shoulders...

I really do not think Brignac and Srod are the answers and prefer EJ and Zoby at SS and 2nd.

The swapping around is reasonable given most, other than Benny Z., are pretty much equivalent overall. I just hope that Lopez doesn't get too many more PA. Good for him for now.

I'll miss the defense, not much offense to miss.

And every time I say the word offense, it makes me want Desmond Jennings and/or Chirinos called up.... and hey Chirinos was a SS for a long time.....
