The GBT – The Good, The Bad and The Telling sandwich, where The Bad is nice and lean and the The Telling is ripe.

THE GOOD: Jeremy Hellickson. Hellboy didn’t show any ill effects from his sore hamstring or the blister that caused him to leave his last start early. He worked 4 shutout innings, striking out 2 and walking 1…Power Up. Kelly Shoppach and Dan Johnson each hit their third home run of the spring. Their 6 combined home runs is already half of their combined total (12) in the regular season last year...Looking For Glove. BJ Upton did his best Willie Mays on a long Derek Jeter flyball. Upton caught the ball at the warning track with his back to the infield.

THE BAD: Juan Cruz. Cruz, who will likely be on the opening day roster if he can show that he can work back-to-back days, struggled for the first time with his control, walking 2 in 2 innings, giving up 1 run.

THE TELLING: Kyle Farnsworth hyperextended his knee fielding a bunt, but remained in the game…Matt Joyce was scratched from the lineup with a sore back…Ben Zobrist is now expected to be the leadoff hitter on most days versus righties…We will have more on this later, but several players made their longest outings of the spring, including Evan Longoria, who worked seven innings, and Sean Rodriguez and Reid Brignac, who both stayed in the game through eight innings.

  1. Blake says:

Odd that the dark side would boo one of their own.

  2. Kelley says:

I'm going to have to write a letter or make a phone call to Gov. Scott's office or something. That is horrible that he would do that. No other governor would do that if the situation were reversed. That's inexcusable.

  3. Jon Wayne says:

Rick Scott is a carpetbagger, he is only here to use the Governorship of Florida as his personal soapbox for Tea Party politics. Rick Scott plays to a national audience, not a Florida audience. He could care less what Floridians think about him as they have already provided him with what he sought.

Rick Scott wearing a Yankees shirt plays to a national audience and has no respect whatsoever for the Rays or the Marlins, or anything else that is in Florida.

    Wake up voters!

  4. Hal says:

I know we all hate Shoppach around here, but maybe he's the anti-Burrell, realized that he needed to work harder, got his ass in shape, and came back with something to prove. He's been 10x better than Jaso in every aspect this spring.

  5. phil says:

Hopefully that (shoppach's good spring) carries into the regular season

  6. Gus says:

Hellickson is just a joy to watch. 3-2 to A-Roid, we're all calling for the breaking ball and he delivers a beauty at the knees that freezes A-Roid and was strike 3 but the umpire called it inside. Still awesome.

His post-game interview skills, however, need work.

    • Beth says:

I agree on both the curve ball and the interview skills.

But do you remember Wade Davis when he first got called up? I remember Todd Kalas' effort to interview him after his first win -- the man was catatonic. Now he's actually pretty comfortable on camera. So there's hope for Jeremy.

      • Don says:

NO athletes get paid for talking..leave that to guys like Maddon and like kind politicians....give me a "player"...... you can watch Opra if you like interviews

  7. KillaTapes says:

I think you got your Cruz' wrong.

  8. angrybuddha says:

I can't get over Scott's Yankees jersey. This is unconscionable. I can't think of another example of such a poor choice at the nexus of sports and politics. Did anyone ask him about it?

  9. Razzlegator says:

Great news guys. P Rick Scott will be throwing out the first pitch at the Rays Season Opener. I'm going to be ill when I see him wearing a Rays jersey. This will be more fun booing him than any Red Sox or Yankee player.

  10. Don says:

What you don't like the guy who is going to straighten out this STATE whether the Media or Morons like it or not..
IN four years you will be kissing his A....s...s!
