At FanFest on Saturday, the Rays sold one-foot-square pieces of the old turf that was replaced this off-season with all proceeds going to charity. If you couldn’t make it, we have been told there will be other opportunities to purchase pieces of the turf, but that no definitive plans have been made yet.

We have spoken to a lot of people who picked up a piece on Saturday. But this left us wondering:

What do you plan to do with the piece (or pieces) of turf that you purchased?

We are really big into Do-It-Yourself projects, and we had a few thoughts…

  • Frame it, and hang it on the wall.
  • Cover an end table
  • Use it as a welcome mat
  • Use several pieces as the surface of a bar top.
  • Buy enough sections to carpet a room or patio (pricey at $3,600 for a 12’x12′ room).

But we are more interested in what you are planning to do. So let us know in the comments.

Plant it in the yard, water it daily, keep it fertilized and hope for the best... Oh wait..

Saw it on ebay for $50 - just how much were they selling it for? I would like some to put on my desk. Maybe drill a hole and put a Ray's golf ball on a tee. That would be cool.

I'm going to frame it. The first attempt was spoiled because the frame / shaddow box was not deep enough and the pieces are actually a little bigger than 12"x12". I'll figure it out, though. 😉

I'm going to put mine on the back porch and then blame it for my sore back when I try to avoid yard work. I'm also going to blame it for creating a dingy atmostphere in my house and why my house doesn't attract more trick or treaters than the mansion up the street.

Off subject Cork, but I found at least four articles today by major sports writers about the Rays. That's unheard of. Having Manny and Johnny on our team has brought an excitement that I've never had for the Rays. I can see attendence records broken if they get off to a good start. This is just what we needed.
