Yesterday we wrote about Ken Rosenthal’s “thought” that wondered if the Rays should sign Vladimir Guerrero, have him DH, let Manny Ramirez play left field everyday and make Johnny Damon the starting first baseman.

Of course, this idea was shot down by a lot of people who know more about the Rays than Rosenthal. Then Rosenthal got defensive. He even snapped at me on Twitter for mentioning that I had also considered the notion for a brief moment before laughing it off.

Well, later in the day, Rosenthal spoke with somebody that told him the Rays aren’t interested in Vlad. At all. And then I laughed again.

Sports reporting is getting like “rag magazines”…the wilder the story, the more headlines, the more repeats in other “sources” (ie blogs, talk shows ..ect.).. Rosenthal is one of the best at it….

How long are we allowed to carry 42 men on the 40 man? Or is it 43 now with Lopez? I believe I’d start to complain if I were one of the other MLB teams.

ESPN suggesting today that the Rays sign Russell Branyon to platoon at 1B.

  4. Joe says:

I don’t have insider, did ESPN have a rumor going yesterday having to do with a Shields trade and a move to 1B for Damon so Jennings can play?

It was something about trading Shields mid season which I assume would be for Torres or Archer unless they kept McGee at SP which I am not for.

It was just speculation by Buster on what arms could be on the market come mid season depending on how the respective team is doing. Nothing deeper than that.
