Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon were introduced to the media today (not each other, they have met before). We will have more on that later, but here is Manny and Damon in Raysian Blue…
Makes for a much more interesting season…and a chance to make the playoffs…..
Lots of interesting comments from mediocre questions from poor sports media…But the best…
“Damon was brought in to play left field, Manny will be the DH”….
Sorta answers some question marks….sounds set!
Looks good on’em.
If we trade for a back end RP, we are ready for the season.
A MIF is optionary, I wouldn’t mind a Orlando Cabrera type at least making E.Johnson earn his spot but I am much less concerned with that
Who was taken off the 40-man roster or has that not been decided yet?
Not announced yet. Still hoping 2 are involved in a trade for that RP and the other one can be the PTBNL to the Padres…
Sounds like that decision will come tomorrow. Guessing they are still trying to work out a minor trade.
Very interesting that the “40 Man Roster” listed on the Rays website counts 42 players. I’d love to hear how they rationalize that. Perhaps they’d made some kind of application to the league that 2 players in the Garza deal should not count to the 40 man roster just because Cubs had them their?
Cork – any thoughts on the rationale here?
The website is not official. Apparently Manny and Damon deals are not officially official yet and that the team may wait until tomorrow to make the corresponding moves. Sounds like they are working on a minor trade (or two).
Topkin specifically mentioned the name of Felipe Lopez for some reason, if we do sign him to at least make E.Johnson earn his spot, it better be a minor league deal, let’s not give the Red Sox a draft pick now….
At this point, we can probably get Orlando Cabrera on the same ML deal and he is more intriguing to me.
So considering the hopeful new RP would add to the 40 man, we need to remove 3 guys. Maybe 2 are involved in a trade for the RP and the 3rd will be the completion of the Padre trade.
It would be really weird if Orlando is a Ray. Even weirder would be seeing him and Balfour get into it when the Rays go to Oakland. But he does seem like a viable back up Short/2nd option if he comes dirt cheap. I too like him over Lopez if they were thinking along those lines. Lopez would only be an option on a minor league deal I would assume, pretty sure that negates the draft pick.
They gave Lopez a ML deal, therefore giving Johnson an actual reason to play hard this Spring and officially setting the draft order, no pick for the Sox.
Now, just trade for a RP and get this thing started
Be prepared for an 84 win season with no proven closer.
