If you have been hanging around these parts for a while, you know that the model for this site is to tell you what the Rays have done, what they are doing and try to project what they will do based on what we have learned. Think of RI as “Tampa Bay Rays 101.”
However, for the next 12 days we will step away from the standard, and we present to you 12 “presents” the Tampa Bay Rays should give to their fans. Looking back at last year’s 12 Days of Raysmas, we see that many of our wishes came true (including that sweet no-hitter), and the result was another division title.
Without further ado…
On the eleventh day of Raysmas, the Tampa Bay Rays gave to us, ELEVEN meaningful games in September…
It is usually on Day 11 that we ask for 11 postseason wins (3+4+4=World Champs), but that might be asking too much of the 2011 Tampa Bay Rays. That is not a knock. A franchise like the Rays has to have seasons like this from time-to-time.
While there will be significant turnover of the roster from the team that won two AL East titles in the past three years. There is still a very good core that will be back. And with that core, and a few lucky breaks (C’mon Andy Pettitte, don’t be Brett Favre! Just walk away), this team has a good shot to be in shouting distance in September.
And if this team, that is in the midst of reloading, can play meaningful games in September, we will consider this season a success.
