The Rays used the Rule 5 Draft to select left-handed reliever Cesar Cabral from the Red Sox. Cabral has never been above single-A, but posted some impressive numbers with Salem in 2010.

In 79.1 innings (48 appearances), he struck out 80 and walked just 21 walks. He did give up 31 runs in 48 innings at Salem after allowing just 1 earned run in 31.1 innings at Greenville.

Cabral must remain on the Rays major league roster all season. If not, he will have to be offered back to the Red Sox.

The Rays also lost Aneury Rodriguez to the Astros in the Rule 5 Draft. Rodriguez was a triple-A pitcher the Rays received in the Jason Hammel trade.

did they have to pick someone from the red sox? if they like him they could work out a trade to keep him in the minors but not if you pick someone from the enemy!
