Nice to see Alex torres doing well ....combined with Andy Sonninstane...does this mean the Rays can trade Shields?

  2. Gus says:

Funny that Torri Hunter is acting as chief recruiter for the Angels. He's not exactly Mr. October and a post-season star.

It just seems to me that LAA is the franchise where players go when they want to cash in but not really worry about winning all that much. Which for the Rays and Rays fans makes it the best AL destination for CC. Personally, I'd rather see him in the NL with a good club that wins (Cards, Braves), but Iif he ends up in LA, that decision kind of speaks for itself.

  3. Tom says:

The Angels have made the playoffs 6 out of the past 9 seasons, I think they care about winning.

  4. Romano's article made a lot of sense. But, I suspect that if other teams feel that the Rays have *any* interest in Pena... they'll pounce. The Rays' MO is well known and it's going to be hard for them to sneak pena by.

  5. Gus says:

They've made the playoffs only with the ineptitude of the AL West and the fact that it is the only 4-team division in baseball. They are a franchise that spends lots of money with little in the way of championships -- 1 pennant in 50 years I think.

From the early days of FAs with Joe Rudi to Bobby Gritch to Torri Hunter, LAA is a place to cash in, where the weather is good and the living is easy. With the Rangers out of bankruptcy and with some TV cash to spend, it will be doubtful that the Angels cruise into the playoffs and first round flame out will be so frequent in CC's tenure out there. But I understand why it is attractive to free agents. But it has been illusory if you are a FA chasing championships.
