In yesterday’s game notes, the Rays noted that Target Field marks the 37th different park the Rays have played in and “the 34th enemy port.” This brings up a couple of interesting questions:
1. Three home parks? The obvious ones are Tropicana Field and the Ballpark at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando. But don’t forget the two-game series the Rays played against the Yankees at the Tokyo Dome in Japan to open the 2004 season. The Rays were technically the “home” team, even though the Yankees wore their famous pinstripes.
2. Thirty-four “enemy ports”? The Rays have played at 27 different major league teams. The have never played at the Dodgers or in Milwaukee. They are also yet to play in the Nationals new ballpark, but did play in old RFK. Of the 27 teams the Rays have faced on the road, seven of those teams have played games in more than one ballpark against the Rays. That list includes the Tigers, Twins, Mets, Yankees, Phillies, Mariners and the Expos/Nationals.
