[Update] Oh, it gets better…Joe Maddon says BJ Upton has a sore quad that he suffered last night. Yes, that’s right. Upton will not start tonight because he ran too hard last night.

[5:08pm] Via Joe Smith’s Twitter page, we learn that Ben Zobrist will once again play center field and will also be leading off. The only explanation that we can fathom is the ol’ day-after-a-non-benching-day-after-an-off-day extra rest.

Tonight’s full lineup…

  1. Zobrist cf
  2. Crawford lf
  3. Longoria 3b
  4. Pena 1b
  5. Joyce rf
  6. Jaso dh
  7. Rodriguez 2b
  8. Shoppach c
  9. Bartlett SS

  1. Joe D. says:

Seemed as if Upton got plenty of rest on Sunday, I just saw some light jogging from him.

  2. Alex says:

His on field activities looked solid enough.

DL stint followed by a Jennings call up while the fo figures out what to do with BJ anyone?

  3. Don says:

Does everyone realize we are playing the "fools" by Joe Maddon...he fabricates information and plays the ACT...
just like he did the other day with Garza (balk) and the umpires..
Maddon and BJ are having a good laugh behind close doors at you "stupid fans".....Bet me!
Bet you... BJ pinch hits tonight if the game is close "sore quad" and all!

  4. Gus says:

    Operation Shutdown has commenced.

  5. Myrna says:

Who needs Upton!!! Zobrist was something else tonight! So happy we beat them Sox. Keep Upton out of the lineup so we continue with the real hustlers.

    • ramedy says:

Yes, Zobrist was indeed something else - awkward to Upton's fluid in CF. He made all the catches, which was great; but he clearly wasn't comfortable, making those catches look harder than they were, or at least harder than they'd be for Upton. I'd give 1.5 kidneys to see Zobrist leading off every day, but he might be the Rays' third-best option at CF (probably close between him and Rodriguez).

  6. robert says:

Upton is being preserved in a warm embryonic fluid. He is safe and warm and when he emerges he will be cuddled
