Sounds like Desmond’s starting to heat up, i remember he did that last season and was on a tear for about a month, sounds like a good time to swap BJ for DJ….ehh wait does that sound right…

  2. Ro says:

I could have swoarn Evan was already the leader. Maybe I was just hallucinating last season but I swear I heard announcers say something like Evan Longoria and the Rays and I could have sworn I heard someone say he was Jeter’s counterpart. Or maybe I’m such an Evan fan I was just imagining it.

  3. I’m curious to see what others think about Jonah Keri’s plan to platoon the entire team. I don’t buy it, but I don’t have any statistical evidence to back me up that platooning the entire lineup (except for Longo/CC) doesn’t work.

    • Matt says:

I personally like Keri’s ideas but I don’t see most of them coming. The ones that may come true are the DFA’s of Kapler and Blalock and a trade to acquire another bat (probably not Dejesus). The Lee trade would never happen though.

  4. Hal says:

Desmond’s also been playing center and batting lead-off. Just saying…

  5. Joe D. says:

From what I can tell BJ has an option and can be outrighted to the minors without having to clear waivers… I think it’s time to make this am option year for BJ…

    • Cork Gaines says:

He would be an expensive minor leaguer. But I do think if the Rays can find a trade partner, they would gladly replace Upton with Jennings

      • Sarah says:

Yeah, except that Jennings has been pegged as CC’s replacement for next year. So if he instead takes BJ’s place, who’s your third outfielder?

        • Cork Gaines says:

In theory they could go some combination of Joyce-Jennings-Zobrist-Rodriguez-CheapKaplerTypeFreeAgent. It’s not great, but it could work.

          • Chris says:

Obviously, when hustling, BJ is a treat defensively but one would think replacing his offense would be fairly easy. Major League outfielders have to be more than .230, 15, 50.

Just stinks that we would be selling at not just a low but at a nadir of value.

  6. Joe D. says:

Would Fernando Perez be *that* much worse than BJ, he might not have the power, or arm of BJ, but he has the possibly the defensive range, he could play left with Desmond in CF…

  7. ramedy says:

Addition to Keri’s 10 things: DFA Kennedy. That opens up a job for Kapler in the booth.
