Jorge Ebro is reporting that the Rays signed their second Cuban defector, Sergio Espinosa. Espinosa is a left-handed relief pitcher. Here is what Cuban Ball Players had to say about Espinosa back in November…

Sergio Espinosa is a left handed pitcher who played for Isla de la Juventud. He was suspended alongside RHP Israel Soto for trying to escape. He has been away from baseball for quite some time until he managed to escape. Espinosa was a closer. He throws over 90 MPH and also has a sharp breaking pitch which is his best weapon. His K/9IP in Cuba was 7.17. His BB/9 was 4.15 and his K/BB was 1.73.

It is unclear when Espinosa last played organized baseball. He defected from Cuba in late 2008 and apparently was under suspension in Cuba at the time.

Earlier this month the Rays signed Leslie Anderson, who has yet to report to camp.

I am skeptical of any signing today. I saw the headline and started thinking about Sid Fynch.

Just when you think you've seen Don post the dumbest comment you'll ever see, he somehow manages to top himself. Well done, Don. You're truly a class act.

I meant to say I hope this "defector" that speaks ONLY baseball, makes a lot of money at the the expense of everyday good guys like Zobrist!
    Is that better?
