Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review is reporting that the Pirates have traded Virgil Vasquez to the Rays for a player to be named later (Elliot Johnson?).

Vasquez, a right-handed pitcher, was drafted in the 7th round of the 2003 draft. he has made 19 appearances and 10 starts in parts of two seasons with the Tigers and Pirates.

Vasquez was with the Pirates on a minor league deal, so not likely to be added to the Rays 40-man roster.

    Get rid of Burrell please.

Why would you sign a guy who is near the end of his career, after he just won a World Series against your team the previous year? Especially when you play in Florida? His priorities clearly aren’t going to be his new team.

    Get rid of this clown.

He shouldn’t be on the bench DHing let alone in the outfield.

We still have a 40 man spot from elliot’s departure, right? Are we gonna go after another bullpen arm? I wish elliot the best, it is a shame it never worked out here, but we’ll always have the spring training yankee brawl that jumpstarted it all… thanks elliot.

I just read that Ryan Garko was traded to the Rangers. Why didn’t the Rays try and get him for EJ instead of Virgil Vazquez who the Rays don’t need?

I thought leslie was already on the 40 man. Elliot leaving creates a spot, I think.
