Marc Topkin is reporting that the Rays have defeated BJ Upton in arbitration. Upton will make $3.0 million in 2010. He was seeking $3.3 million. Andrew Friedman and Co. improve to 4-0 in arbitration hearings.

Friedman saves beer money…Upton gets $3mil for what past performance?….This year will tell…how can you pay $3mil for
CF that can’t hit….Now or never Upton!
How are Friedman and Co. so effective when players go to arbitration?
My guess — they are most successful at avoiding arbitration, and only end up in arbitration if they feel they have a very strong case.
never hurts going against josh paul, navi, and Upton coming off of a crappy offensive year.
Good. Maybe now Upton will show up this year and earn next year’s paycheck, because he didn’t earn this year’s 3 mil. Sorry, but offensive ineptitude > defensive range, and I don’t care how many wins the Moneyballers say he’s worth. This is the year for him, and hopefully he’s healthy and interested and we can see all 5 tools on display.
This is most likely the year for the team.
if they don’t win this year we will probably lose at least Crawford and Pena (or maybe only one). There goes 35% of our production and great defensive ability.
Shields only gets a year older, I feel like this is the year he gets to 18+ wins.
