Evan Longoria And The MLB2K10 Trailer

Evan Longoria, MLB 2K10 5 Comments »

One thing Raysheads will always be able to count on is that contract or no, we will not bow down to any sponsor. Maybe we’re wrong on this one, but for us, the beast doesn’t include selling out. It’s like people only do these things because they can get paid. And that’s just really sad.

We can’t talk about it anymore. This is boring. We need to break out the Xbox 360 and play something. What should we play? If only Evan “Dirtbag” Longoria were here to help us out…

Guess we have to wait until March 2nd.

Jeremy Hellickson And Desmond Jennings In Living Color

Desmond Jennings, Jeremy Hellickson, Uncategorized 3 Comments »

‘Tis the season for prospect lists. Before pitchers and catchers report in a little over a month, we will see thousands of prospect lists consisting of hundreds of players that the writers couldn’t pick out of a lineup.

And after watching the two videos below you will have seen Desmond Jennings and Jeremy Hellickson in more live action than most people getting paid to write about them (which is saying something, because the clips are realllyyyy short)…

ESPN.com Starts Upton Trade Rumor; Proceeds To Shart Their Tighty-Whiteys

BJ Upton 7 Comments »

BASEBALL/Earlier this week, the Rays failed to reach a contract agreement with BJ Upton and will head to arbitration to settle a $300K difference-of-opinion (Upton wants $3.3m, the Rays are offering $3.0m).

An anonymous writer at ESPN.com (scroll down to 2:49pm) hears hoof beats and thinks zebras. And after reading this piece we are beginning to wonder if ESPN.com has lost their goddamned minds…

At some point soon the Rays may consider trading Upton as outfield prospect Desmond Jennings continues to develop, and that time could come as early as this season. Upton is starting to make some real money and Jennings is on the cusp of the big leagues.

Nevermind that the Rays have another outfielder (Carl Crawford) that makes a LOT more money than Upton and is a free agent after the season and that Jennings is more likely to take his spot. No, let’s ignore that obvious fail in the above statement and skip straight to the teams that anonymous writer says the Rays could trade Upton to…

  • New York Mets
  • San Francisco Giants
  • Texas Rangers
  • Chicago Cubs
  • Chicago White Sox
  • Los Angeles Dodgers
  • New York Yankees
  • Boston Red Sox

Let’s ignore for another second that this writer spent so much time on this list that he basically just wrote down the top payrolls in baseball.

No, it is the final two teams on that list that we would like to address…

On the universal list of things that might happen this season, we have to imagine “Rays trade BJ Upton to divisional rival Yankees/Red Sox” would fall somewhere after Don Zimmer being named the starting pitcher for game 7 of the World Series and just ahead of NOTHING.

Folks, we can’t make it up. ESPN.com actually pays somebody for this shit.

Upton Brothers On MLB Network Was Surprisingly Enjoyable

MLB.com won’t let us embed their videos, so here are the two links.

The first is a sit down interview with BJ Upton (neé Melvin) and Justin Upton (neé Poopykins) razzing on each other about which brother is better at certain baseball skills…

The second has the two brothers explaining how they play defense.

  • Safe to say that Bert Blyleven’s knowledge of the Rays is limited to circling Twins fans at The Trop, but that didn’t stop him from chiming in. [Rise of the Rays]
  • Hal Bodley writes about why Don Zimmer is good for baseball. [MLB]
  • The Rays signed catcher Alvin Colina who was in triple-A for the Braves last year. The Rays will need extra catchers the first few weeks of spring training and Colina is the right type of guy.
  • The Rays #1 pick from the 1997 draft, Jason Standridge has signed with the Phillies. He last appeared in the majors with the Royals in 2007.
